Diarrhoea Outbreak Claims 3 Lives in Ganjam’s Village
Berhampur: A diarrhoea outbreak has claimed three lives in Damapur village, located under T. Gobindpur panchayat in Sanakhemundi block of Ganjam district.
According to reports, the deceased, Sambaru Mallick (64), Kandara Mallick (62), and Sukri Mallick died between Monday and Tuesday after reportedly suffering from the illness since the weekend.
Sambaru and Kandara succumbed while receiving treatment, whereas Sukri, who was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in critical condition, passed away on Tuesday. The sudden spike in cases has triggered alarm among villagers and local authorities.In response, a medical team was sent to the area. Residents have been provided Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets and advised to boil drinking water.
A medical team from Adapada Community Health Centre visited the village and suspect the outbreak may be linked to the consumption of bamboo shoots and wild mushrooms, combined with irregular dietary habits.
Local officials continue monitoring the situation as preventive measures are ramped up to curb further spread.
