Devotee Donates Over 4.8 Kg Gold Jewellery to Lord Jagannatha Temple

PURI:The Shree Jagannatha Temple in Puri received a record quantity of gold jewellery as donation from a devotee of the deities. A representative of the devotee met the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Krishan Kumar at his office today and handed over him the gold jewellery weighing about 4.875 kg.

The gold jewellery include ‘Jhoba’, ‘Srimukha’ and ‘Padma’ of deities of the Shrimandir.

A total of 40 ‘Shree Mukha Padma’ and two ‘Jhobaa’ ornaments of Lord Balabhadra , 53 ‘Shree Mukha Padma’ and two ‘Jhobaa’ of Lord Jagannatha and two ‘Tadaki’ and two ‘Jhobaa’ were donated to the temple.

An official of the temple administration said 4.858 kg gold and 3.876 kg sliver were used to make the gold jewellery.

Official sources said the huge quantity of the jewellery have been kept at the temple office’s treasury amid tight security. The temple administration will hand over the jewellery to the ‘Bhandara Mekapa’ tomorrow, the sources added.

Sources said the devotee chose the auspicious ‘Basant Panchami’ to donate the ornaments to the deities of the Shrimandir.

Upon being asked the temple administration refused to divulge details of the devotee who donated the jewellery. The devotee requested the temple administration not to reveal the identity.

During the specific ‘besha’ of the deities the gold jewellery will be used, the sources added.
