Defeat Diabetes Campaign by National Diabetes Body on Doctors Day

Berhampur dated 1st July 2021:On the occasion of National Doctors Day today, Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) has initiated an ambitious drive Defeat Diabetes Campaign (DDC) to increase awareness about Diabetes among general public. In this initiative over next 100 days, 10000 doctors from across India will be participating as ambassadors of health. Dr Sunil Kumar Kota, Consultant Endocrinologist from Diabetes &Endocare Clinic, Berhampur is spearheading the campaign from Odisha. Dr Kota has formed a group of 256 doctors from all the districts of Odisha. On the inaugural day- Sri Chandra Sekhar Sahu, Hon’ble MP, Berhampur; Sri SatyabrataBhoi, DIG Southern Range; Sri Vijay A Kulange, Collector & District Magistrate Ganjam and Sri Bikram Panda, Hon’ble MLA, Berhampur underwent testing for blood sugar and have wished all the participants, Dr Kota for a smooth conduct of the entire drive.

India has bagged the unwanted tag of Diabetes Capital of the world. Diabetes being a silent killer is responsible for occurrence of Heart, kidney disease and stroke. Infact during these covid times, people with Diabetes are not only prone to contract illness, but also they are more prone to develop severe form of COVID-19 requiring admission and oxygen therapy with more mortality in this group of patients as well. The post discharge course is also more complicated with increased occurrence of fungal illnesses, blood clotting, lung disorders and delayed long term recovery in patients with Diabetes. In fact, as per Bloomberg journal of technology, worldwide there is 30% increased risk of Diabetes in subsequent 6 months, among people who got cured from COVID-19. Everyone above the age 40 years should undergo at least annual blood sugar, blood pressure and lipid measurement to catch these disorders early followed by timely lifestyle modification and treatment if needed. Especially one who are obese, physically sedentary, having Blood pressure and cholesterol problems, Ladies having PCOD (Irregular meses with male pattern hair growth) and those having family history of Diabetes are more prone for development of Diabetes.

In this special drive,Everyday, the national body of RSSDI will be sharing a common content on various aspects of Diabetes, which will be circulated by the ambassador doctors in various social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Whatsapp, youtubeacross Odisha & India. The  drive would aim to reach 100 million people over 100 days. Test, Treat and Target will be the working principle of this group. All the dignitaries and people from various walks of life thanked Dr Sunil Kota for taking the lead and wished this drive would enlighten everyone about the lurking danger of Diabetes leading to timely adoption of healthy lifestyle.
