College Student Gang-Raped At Gopalpur Odisha Sea Beach

BERHAMPUR,(17/06/25): Atleast10 men have been arrested for the alleged gang-rape of a young woman ( 20 yr) behind the OTDC”Pantha Niwas near the Gopalpur beach in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The incident reportedly took place when the woman had gone to visit the beach with her male friend for their pleasure.
Police say all the accused are from Hinjilicut area.
The accused allegedly gang-raped the woman on Sunday, around 8:30 pm, at the Gopalpur beach after they saw the woman and her male friend sitting at a secluded spot.
The accused restrained the male friend, assaulted him, and clicked pictures of the two and threatened to make them viral if they did not pay up.
The accused allegedly took the woman aside and raped her and then fled from the spot.The police added that the accused allegedly dragged the woman’s friend to a distance and tied him up while the others took turns to rape her.
According to the police the rape survivor is a college student from a nearby district and had been staying at a private mess in Berhampur. She went to the beach with a male friend, who is also her classmate.
The Gopalpur beach area in Ganjam district is frequented by tourists from far-off places and is among the famous beach resort towns in the state.
The medical examination of the victim has been conducted, and an investigation is underway to piece together how the crime took place.

While Addressing to press superintendent of police Dr. Sarvana Vivek,M,said on that,15 June 2025 , a 20 yr old woman studying +3 in a Berhampur college and her Male friend visited Gopalpur. Around 6.30 PM they reached a isolated area behind the Pantnivas hotel.
They saw a group of youngsters sitting around 50m from their place. Around 8 PM the group of youngsters numbering 10 , came behind the couple and overpowered the male friend and took the woman around 50 feet away.
5 of the accused persons caught the Malefriend and gaurded him while another 5 youngsters overpowered the woman. 3 persons raped the woman while others kept the male friend and woman under watch. Around 10 PM they left the male friend and woman after threatening them that if they report to Police they will face dire consequences.
After the incident around 11 PM , the victim woman and her Male friend reached Gopalpur police station and narrated the incident.
IIC Gopalpur PS and his team immediately formed a team and detained 7 of the suspects initially and started interrogation. Later three teams were formed to identify and detain the rest of the suspects.
Case was registered under 70(1)/296 / 351(3)/310(2) BNS.
During investigation it is found that one Pramod Nayak, 23 who is from Hiundata village under Purushottampur police station currently working in Bangalore in a electronics factory had returned home on leave. He called his friends from Borupada village under Hinjili Police station to go to Gopalpur. Bauram Dalei , 19 and Lakman Pradhan , 24 both cousins from Borupada village under Hinjili Police station came in 2 bikes to Sikiri village under Hinjili Police station area. Om Pradhan, 19 , Deepak Tarai , 19 and three juveniless aged 17 yrs , all five persons belonging to Sikiri village joined them. All eight persons travelled in three bikes and went to Pattapur village under
Bellagam Police station. Kunal Pradhan , 24 and another Juvenile aged 17 yrs of Partapur village joined them.
All together 6 adults and 4 juvenilles travelled to Gopalpur in three bikes and they reached Gopalpur at 3.30 PM. They bathed in the sea and later came to the isolated spot around 6 PM , the same spot where the couple came around 6.30 PM.
At around 8 PM , the incident happened where three of the accused persons raped the woman and rest accused persons assaulted and kept the couple under captive.
Following the FIR, Medical examination of the victim has been conducted. Both the woman and the boyfriend’s statement have been recorded. DSP , IUCAW, Sri Akshaya K Panda ( Integrated Unit for Child and Woman ) has been entrusted with the investigation of the case being assigned by DSP,MS. Alma Lakra.
Scientific team and senior officers visited the spot and collected the evidences.
Prayer will be given to the JJB to treat the juvenilles as Adults for the purpose of trial and this is a case of heinous offence
