Collector,Koraput taken Steps for Coffee Plantation

Koraput:The Koraput district collector has taken steps to achieve this goal after the Chief Minister announced a 5,000-hector coffee plantation in Koraput a few days ago.

 A joint venture between the Odisha Livelihood Mission, the Coffee Development Trust, the Mission Shakti and the Coffee Board has set up a sapling preparation centre on how to cultivate 522 hectares of coffee in Koraput district in the first phase in the coming days.  A special bed has been set up in the nursery for the production of 1.6 lakh coffee seedlings at Ghatghumar in the Koraput block after training to prepare coffee seedlings and nurseries within the coffee board premises.  The saplings, which are being developed through self-help groups and other women’s organizations, will be planted on 64 hectares of land in the Koraput block, said Snehalata, block coordinator of OLM.  The importance of coffee cultivation, the creation and maintenance of coffee nurseries and seedlings, the identification of places, and the development of high quality saplings in the know-how of the central and state governments, as well as the training of women in the field of coffee development.  According to Sushmita Samantaraiah, district officer of OLM, the target is to start planting coffee in 522 hectares of land in seven places in the district, such as Ghatghum.
