Bhubaneswar: Coal India’s skill development programme in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Angul districts has turned out to be a boon for the local youth. The youth, after successful training, have been bagging jobs. Eighty-two of the 115 youth trained by CIL so far have joined reputed companies like Amara Raja Group & Motherson India Ltd. Remaining 33 candidates have either opted for local employment or have turned entrepreneurs.
The CIL, in this ongoing skill development programme, is imparting training to 450 youth in three districts to become qualified electricians, welders and auto technicians. The CIL is bearing entire cost of the project, including boarding and lodging. The CIL subsidiary, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), has undertaken massive exercise for identification of suitable candidates from among the peripheral villages.
Over the years, the MCL has been fulfilling its social responsibility for inclusive development of Odisha in more ways than one. The CIL itself had helped in restoration of power transmission lines damaged in the State due to cyclone Fani in 2019 with a support of over Rs 50 crore to Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited.
The CIL had also sponsored skill development training of 280 youth in plastic engineering trades through Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) at their Bhubaneswar and Balasore centres at a cost of Rs 1.81 crore from 2018 to 2020.
