Central Govt. should take steps to bring back Garment-Export to India
Bureau,Odishabarta
DLEHI:India was once the leading-most exporter of textile-based garments and home-furnishings in the world with most advanced countries including USA being the leading importer. But gradually with tougher laws and inspector-raaj, many garment-exporters either had to reduce their capacity or altogether shut down their export-business. Several Indian exporters set up their units in Bangladesh because of eased system and lower salary-packs there, thus making the small and comparatively new country Bangladesh replacing India as the biggest garment-exporter in the world.
Even within India where Okhla Industrial Areas and other industrial zones in Delhi used to be hub of garment-export, Indian exporters were compelled to shift their units in nearing towns like Noida, Faridabad and Gurugram because of vast difference in Minimum-Salary-Act in Delhi and bordering states, thus also leading to steep decline in realty sector in Delhi also leading to unemployment.
Textile-sector in India is a major employer and revenue-generator which mostly depends mostly in export of garments and home-furnishings further generating huge employment in associated sector like processing units. Central government should take urgent steps to ensure that India regains its top position as exporter of garments and home-furnishings in the world for boost of economy and generating employment especially during the corona-crisis.
