BMS, Rayagada celebrates National Labour Day,

BMS,laments insensitivity of govt and corporate towards labourers’ basic rights


Rayagada, September 18: As a tradition, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangha(BMS) usually celebrates Lord Viswakarma Jayanti as National Labour Day. On this occasion Rayagada district unit of BMS organised a procession from Gandhi Park, which culminated at town hall by covering important locations of Rayagada town.A chariot decorated with Bharat Mata and Lord Vishwakarma was the key attraction of the procession. The convention commenced by offering prayers to Bharat Mata, Lord Vishwakarma and the Dattoponta Thengdi  jee, the founder of BMS.

Before commencement of the meeting, a two minutes silent prayer was offered to all those BMS members who died throughout the Nation during last year. The dignitaries on the dais Sri Deepak Kumar Rout, RSS  Western Zone representative, Sri Jogeshwar Das, Labour Leader and state secretary BMS, Odisha vividly spoke on the relevance of the day and plights of labourers in the district. They lamented about how the local corporate houses were ignoring the fundamental rights of the labour force working in those companies. Govt’s non-recognition of the contribution by the labourers was also a point of concern during the deliberations.

The participants emphasized the importance of labour unity as strength, progress & prosperity. The event was organised under the leadership of Mohan Rao Majhi, District President,  BMS & Ganesh Kumar Sahu, district secretary BMS. The convention was graced by representatives of All odisha  angananwadi ladies workers association, All odisha asha karmi sangh, Viswakarma mazdoor Sangh, district shoppers mazdoor Sangh, district safai mazdoor Sangh, Utkal alumina mazdoor sangh, JK Paper Mill Mazdoor Sangh, IMFA Labour Association, IMFA contract mazdoor sangh, Pachika sangh, district hotel workers association, district vegetable vendors.association.

More than two thousand office bearers from eleven blocks of Rayagada district were present in the event. The event was coordinated and moderated by Jayanti Padmalaya Sahu, Usharani Dash, A Tirupati Rao, Neha Singh, K K Jena, Dharmsingh Nag, Durga Madhav Ghosh, Paramananda Pradhan, Niranjan Senapati & M Ram Babu.
