BJP,BJD STAGE DHARNAS AT SEC OFFICE

Bhubaneswar: The activists of both the ruling BJD and Opposition BJP on Wednesday staged dharnas in front of the State Election Commission (SEC) office protesting against the inaction of the commission against the accused involved in large-scale violence, booth capturing and rigging during the ongoing panchayat elections.

Both the parties accused each other of rigging and booth capturing and submitted memorandums to the SEC demanding action against those responsible. The BJD activists alleged that the BJP leaders and supporters resorted to violence as they are fearing that they are going to lose the elections. The BJD leaders urged the commission to take stern action against those responsible.

The BJP leaders, on the other hand, blamed the SEC for acting in a partisan manner in favour of the ruling dispensation. The BJP said that though evidences of booth capturing and rigging at more than 200 places by the BJD leaders were given to the SEC, the commission has ordered repolling in only 45 booths. The BJP leaders alleged that poll violence has been reported mainly in three districts Ganjam, Jajpur and Bhadrak.
