BJP to Finalize NDA’s Vice-Presidential candidate Tomorrow

New Delhi: The BJP parliamentary board is likely to meet on Sunday (August 17) to finalize the ruling National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) Vice-Presidential candidate, sources said.

The NDA has authorised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president JP Nadda to select the nominee.

The last date for filing nominations is August 21. The Monsoon Session of Parliament resumes on August 18, and the NDA candidate may participate in a meeting with BJP and allied party leaders before submitting the nomination.

Sources indicate that multiple sets of nominations will be filed in support of the candidate by NDA MPs. Chief Ministers and deputy Chief Ministers of BJP-led states are expected to join the nomination filing process alongside the Prime Minister and Union ministers.

The election, if contested by the Opposition, which remains a strong possibility, will be held on September 9. However, with the NDA holding a clear majority in the electoral college of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, their candidate’s win is virtually assured.
