BJP Mahila Morcha marches to CM’s residence, wants CBI probe into Mamita murder

Bureau,Odishabarta

Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of BJP Mahila Morcha activists on Saturday marched to Naveen Niwas, the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, demanding a CBI probe into the murder of lady teacher Mamita Meher.

Carrying posters and placards and shouting slogans, the women activists of the BJP also demanded dismissal of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra from the Council of Ministers for his role in the murder case.

The Mahila Morcha activists, who began their march from the party office, had a scuffle with the police near Sishu Bhawan chowk as the heavy police force deployed there in view of the agitation, did not allow them to proceed to Naveen Niwas.

BJP general secretary Lekhashree Samantasinghar alleged that several Mahila Morcha activists were injured when police prevented them from marching to Naveen Niwas. The Mahila Morcha activists said since the allegation was against the Minister of State for Home for his involvement in the murder case, the victim’s family will not get justice unless the Minister is dropped and the case is handed over to the CBI.

The BJP’s Mahila Morcha claimed that “law has died” in the State and sought to carry its “body” in a symbolic funeral procession from the party’s headquarters at Sri Ram Mandir chowk to Naveen Niwas. “The Chief Minister often says that law will take its own course. We ask him, how can justice come when the Minister of State for Home himself is involved in the case,” said Pravati Parida, a senior woman BJP leader.

The activists of the BJP Yuva Morcha on Saturday held demonstration in front of the office of the Kalahandi SP demanding the dismissal of Mishra from the Council of Ministers and a CBI probe into the murder case.

BJD spokesperson Elina Das dismissed the allegations against the Minister describing them as baseless. She said the prime accused in the murder case has been arrested and that the BJP Mahila Morcha is politicising the issue unnecessarily.

Meanwhile, Odisha State Commission for Women chairperson Minati Behera visited Jharani village and met family members of Mamita Meher. She assured them of stern action against the accused. Mamita’s father urged the women commission chairperson to ensure that the prime accused gets capital punishment and all those involved in the case are arrested. He said Mamita was the only earning member in his family and demanded a job for his son.
Meanwhile, Congress Legislature Party Leader Narasingha Mishra offered to fight the case in the court to provide justice to the family of Mamita.
