Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project Set for Completion by December 2027

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar metro rail project, a pivotal infrastructure initiative in Odisha, is scheduled for completion by December 2027. This project aims to revamp urban mobility in Bhubaneswar, reducing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity across significant areas.

According to reports, the metro trains will run on elevated tracks, positioned 13 metres above ground level, with greater height at specific junctions like Rajmahal, Jayadev Vihar and Baranga. Metro services are expected every 10 minutes, with a fleet of 13 three-coach trains planned for the operation.

Currently, soil testing is underway, with samples being collected from depths of 50-60 metres across various locations in the city. These samples are being sent to laboratories in Delhi and Cuttack for analysis, expected to conclude within two months. Following this, foundation design will commence.Additionally, a casting yard is being set up at Ghatikia, where essential casting components will be manufactured. Work on the project maintenance depot at Ratagada near Trisulia is also in progress.

Road expansion from Sishu Bhawan Square to Raghunathpur is concurrently underway to improve commuter convenience, with completion expected in two months.
