Bhubaneswar Among India’s Top 10 Cleanest Cities in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25
New Delhi: Bhubaneswar has made a remarkable leap in the national cleanliness rankings, securing a spot among the top 10 cleanest cities in the country in the 3 to 10 lakh population category of the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Climbing from its previous 34th position, the Odisha capital now stands at 9th place, reflecting significant improvements in sanitation and civic infrastructure.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) was honoured for this achievement during a felicitation ceremony held in New Delhi on Wednesday. Odisha’s Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das, Urban Development Department Secretary Usha Padhee and BMC Commissioner Rajesh Pravakar Patil received the award on behalf of the city.
Besides Bhubaneswar, two Notified Area Councils (NACs) from Ganjam district were also recognised. Aska NAC bagged the ‘Swachh Sehar’ award in the 20,000 to 50,000 population category, while Chikiti NAC received the honour in the below 20,000 population segment.
The BMC expressed gratitude to the citizens of Bhubaneswar, crediting their collective effort in maintaining cleanliness and enhancing the city’s liveability.
“A proud moment for Odisha as our commitment to urban cleanliness continues to earn national recognition,” the state government said in an official statement.
