Berhampur’s Power Capacity Gets a Major Boost

● Substation capacity enhanced to 16.15 MVA
● Reliable and safe electricity for over 7,000 consumers in Berhampur and adjoining areas
● Major safety upgrades including underground cabling, fencing, and infrastructure modernization
Berhampur : In a focused move to upgrade the power infrastructure of Berhampur and its adjoining areas, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has completed the upgradation of the Kanisi Primary Substation (PSS). This development is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted and reliable power supply to one of the town’s most vital commercial belts, while addressing rising demand and reinforcing operational safety.
As part of the upgradation, the transformer capacity of one of the three Power Transformers (PTRs) catering to Haladiapadar has been increased from 3.15 MVA to 8 MVA. With this, the total substation capacity has now risen to 16.15 MVA. This increased capacity will significantly reduce the risk of overloading and support the growing electricity demand of nearly 7,000 consumers spread across Haladiapadar, Autonagar, Kanisi village, and surrounding areas. The remaining two PTRs, serving Tulu and Randha regions, continue to operate at 5 MVA and 3.15 MVA respectively. So, the total capacity of all three cumulatively has touched 16.15 MVA.
To ensure safety and system resilience, several infrastructure improvements have also been carried out. These include replacing 11kV overhead lines in the PSS premises with underground cables to eliminate the hazards of exposed conductors, construction of cable trenches, installation of chain-link fencing around the switchyard, refurbishment of the substation, replacement of traditional walls with detachable-type grills, and creation of a separate access road for smooth and safe movement of both staff and consumers.
Speaking on the development, Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO of TPSODL, said, “This upgradation is part of our moto to build a robust and future-ready power infrastructure in Southern Odisha. With the enhanced capacity at Kanisi PSS, residents and businesses in Berhampur can expect more reliable, safe, and efficient electricity service, which is essential for sustained economic and social growth.”
The initiative reflects TPSODL’s commitment to improve the quality of life and powering the progress of Berhampur by ensuring that electricity remains stable, secure, and scalable.
