Berhampur University Observes its 24th Convocation

Berhampur,(Bhanja Vihar):The Berhampur University has observed its 24th Convocation in the gracious presence of the Hon’ble Governor of Odisha and Chancellor of Berhampur University Prof. Ganeshi Lal on 29th March 2023, at the Biju Patnaik Auditorium of Bhanja Bihar. Esteemed Chief Guest Hon’ble Justice Satrughana Pujahari, Chairperson, Odisha Human Rights Commission, Guest of Honour Shri Bishnupada Sethi, IAS, Principal Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, Odisha, have also joined on this occasion.

On this occasion, Prof. Geetanjali Dash, the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Berhampur University, gave the welcome address. Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor has expressed that in the 57 years of its existence, this institution has produced great alumni, succeeding and spearheading across the global spectrum. We pose our hope on ‘Basudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and promote a ‘Global Citizenship Behaviour’ (GCB) and instil cross-cultural values among our students, enabling them to be pragmatic multinational corporate athletes. In the era of information empowerment, we have left no stone unturned in nurturing young minds to exhibit resilience and competitiveness.

Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Governor has expressed that India aspires and is working on becoming a Five Trillion Dollar economy by 2024-25. The realisation of this goal is incumbent upon the capability of its education and training institutions to equip our young men and women with knowledge and skills relevant to an evolving job market. It requires quality, excellence, innovation and constant upgradation. He also added that the most significant feature of the NEP-2020 is that it aims to promote both inclusion and excellence. This policy has been formulated with a great vision. It aims to bring a total transformation to our education system. The policy is built on the foundational pillars of access, equity, quality, affordability and accountability. This policy is expected to reshape the students into global citizens rooted in our heritage and values. This policy aims to create a new system aligned with the global aspirational goals of 21st Century education while remaining consistent with India’s traditions and value system.

Record of degrees for the year 2022 was placed by Shri Sachidananda Nayak, Registrar Berhampur University before the Hon’ble Chancellor for signature during the occasion.

On this occasion, 8 D.Litt. 2 D.Sc. and 70 Ph.D. Scholars were awarded their Degrees, and 45 gold medals have been conferred to students in different subjects. Along with the convocation ceremony, the Governor has also inaugurated the newly constructed Ladies’ Hostel, a new building allotted to the P.G Dept. of Journalism and Mass Communication and new extension of Administrative Building.

Members of the Syndicate, Members of the Academic Council, Deans of Faculties, Professors and faculty members of different departments and officers of the University, officials of District Administration and students of different departments were present during the Convocation.
