Berhampur Police District Makes a in Child-Friendly Police Station

Berhampur The child-friendly police station was inaugurated at Berhampur,Ganjam by Southern  Range IG Mr Satyabrata Bhoi,IPS.,on Friday in presence of , Addl SPs , SDPO Town , IIC Mahila PS & other officers  with main motto to help children report crime without fear.

When concerns are being raised over safety and security of children the Berhampur  Police has begun such initiative to develop child-friendly police stations in the Berhampur Police district.

The initiative is aimed at making the police station in the police district child-friendly in a phased manner as per the guidelines of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).

Speaking to audience IGP,Bhoi said the objective is to make this  police station and the  police personnel more approachable towards the children so that they are able to report about various offences without hesitancy and give their statements without fear.It also aims at providing proper psychological care and counselling to children in distress, especially those who have faced sexual abuse.he added.

Addressing Mr Saravana Vivek,M, IPS,Supreitendent of Police,Berhampur said,Under infrastructure development, a separate room  set up on the premises of the Mahila police station having child-friendly decor, books and toys to provide a safe and calm atmosphere to the children.

This initiative brings out a child friendly space within the Mahila PS . Whenever any child accompanying any complainant or any aggrieved person comes to the police station, this space would bring comfort to both the child and also the mother/gaurdian of the child. It includes a resting area , seperate toilet , Feeding area , toys and also kids play area.

The training module will consist of detailed information on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, POCSO Act, Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, NCPCR guidelines along with child and victims psychology. School children will be invited to the police stations to spend a day at the facilities and understand their functioning.Saaravana Vivek,SP added.

At end IG Mr Bhoi interacted with the staff of one stop centre, CWC member , Childline staff, and other officers present.
