Berhampur,( 13/02/2026):The Berhampur Cyber Crime & Economic Offences Police Station has successfully apprehended an individual for the non-consensual distribution of private images on social media platforms and subsequent extortion,  allegedly for having voyeuristic   intimate photos of a women warns  viral on social media without consent.

The Accuse identified as,   Surendra Pradhan (39 yrs) s/o Ramesh Chandra Pradhan of Village: Hansamurakatapalli, under Jharsuguda, Sadar police station limit,Odisha.

The identified Surendra Pradhan who is currently working as ASI of Excise at Athamallik Excise Station 6 months back he was posted at Berhampur EI & EB Squad.

The incident came to fore  after  On 12.2.2026 ,while   a female victim  reported that she came in touch with an accused Surendra Pradhan who is currently working as ASI of Excise at Atha Mallik Excise Station 6 months back while he  was posted at Berhampur EI & EB Squad.

She established a relationship with the victim through Instagram, Meta the parent Company.

Thereafter, both contacted with each other at different places. Surendra promised to marry victim/complainant and based on that trust, she became very close to him.

Taking advantage of their proximity, he took several photos of victim during their intimate moment and demanded money. Under extreme pressure, she borrowed money and sent Rs.40, 000 to his PhonePe account on 11.2.2026.

Keeping into consideration the report of the female victim  against Surendra pradhan     Cyber Crime & Economic Offences Police Station registered a casee U/S 294(2)(a)/336(2) /336(4) /75/79/77 /308(2)/351(2)/198 of BNS/ R/W Sec 66( E ) /67/67-A  of IT Act/6 The Indecent Representation of Women(Prohibition )Act,1986 (turned to Sec. 294(2)(a)/336(2)/336(4)/79/77 /308(2) /351(2) of BNS/ R/W Sec 66( E) /67/67-A  of IT Act/6 The Indecent Representation of Women(Prohibition )Act,1986.

 The scientific investigation led to the apprehension of the accused on February 13, 2026. He has since been forwarded to the Court.

a. Verify Profiles: Be wary of befriending or sharing personal details with individuals you meet online, even those claiming to hold official positions or public office.

b.Privacy Settings: Regularly review and tighten your privacy settings on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp to limit who can see your personal life.

C.Digital Footprints are Permanent: Be extremely cautious about sharing or allowing the capture of intimate photos or videos, even with people you trust. Once a digital file is created, it can be used as a tool for blackmail.

D.False Promises: Criminals often use the pretext of marriage or deep emotional commitment to gain access to private moments.

E.Financial Demands: If someone threatens to leak your private photos unless you pay money (via PhonePe, Google Pay, or other means), do not pay. Paying often leads to further demands rather than the deletion of the content.

F.Emotional Blackmail: If a person begins using shared secrets or media to control your behaviour, it is a criminal offense.

G.Do Not Delete Evidence: Save screenshots of conversations, payment receipts (like UPI transactions), and the profile links of the accused. These are vital for a scientific police investigation.

H.Cease Communication: Immediately stop engaging with the harasser. Do not give in to threats.

I.Report Immediately: You are not alone. Reach out to your nearest Police Station or the Cyber Crime & Economic Offences Unit.
