BeMC Hold Emergency Meeting of Possible Cyclone “YAAS”

Berhampur:The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) is on high alert as a cyclonic storm Yaas is forming in the Bay of Bengal at any time after the cyclone Tauktae hit in Gujrat.
Today the Commissioner of BeMC Mr Sidheswar Baliraam Bondar hold an emergency meeting with all senor staff members as well with all line of officers keeping in view of the gravity of expected cyclone Yaas.
Yaas is expected to take shape and intensify further in across the city.Pre-emptive measures have already been initiated by the BeMC to deal with Yaas, it told by Commissioner in the meeting.“We have taken all precautionary measures with the department of Fire,Power,Police and National Highway authority,” he said.
Notably, the Odisha government on Thursday alerted the authorities of 12 districts including Ganjam of the state as a cyclonic storm may hit its coast on May 26 and said that it is prepared to face the eventuality.As the “apprehenation cannot be ruled out” so, keeping in view we expect “YAAS” is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm and strike. The intensity of rainfall may gradually increase, especially in the areas like Gopalpur,Berhampur City and other peripherals.
Meanwhile, Collector Ganjam on Sunday held a high-level meeting with officials of the disaster management of district and with police officers and review the preparations in place in the event of a cyclone.
The Met department has forecast Well Marked Low Pressure Area over East Central Bay of Bengal persists in morning of today 23rd May 2021 and the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to mid tropospheric levels also persists. It is very likely to concentrate into a Depression during next 06 hours. It is very likely to move north north westwards, intensify into a Cyclonic Storm by 24th May and further into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during subsequent 24 hours. It would continue to move north north westwards, intensify further and reach north Bay of Bengal near West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha & Bangladesh coasts around 26th May morning. It is very likely to cross West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha & Bangladesh coasts around evening of 26th May, 2021.
