Baidyanathpur Police Arrest One for Extorting Money from Local Contractor

Berhampur,(28/02/2026):Baidyanathpur Police have arrested one person for obstructing construction work and demanding money as “protection fees” from a local contractor.
The incident came to light after a written complaint was filed by Subhendu Sekhar Sahu of Baikuntha 5th Lane.
Based on the report, of SS. Sahu,Baidyanathpur police station registered a case on February 27, 2026.against one Jagadananda Das (63.
According to the investigation, accused Jagadananda Das (63), a resident of Baikuntha Nagar 4th Lane confronted the complainant .during his construction work.
The accused used abusive language and criminal intimidation and demanded Rs.50,000/- in cash, threatening to halt the construction unless the payment was made.
Accused threatened the contractor once before and he stopped the work. But he didn’t report the matter at police station.
However this time he reported the matter at Police station for legal action.
Legal Action:-
Baidyanathpur Police acted swiftly to apprehend the accused on February 27. Against the registered case no:- 89 u/s. ,as deemed fit.
Accused by using abusive language, Voluntarily causing hurt, Extortion by putting fear of accusation of an offence, Criminal intimidation.
The accused was forwarded to the Honorable Court on February 28, 2026. The police are continuing their investigation to ensure all legal formalities are completed.
