AUDIT WEEK IN GANJAM

Berhampur:As part of the Audit Week 2023 celebrations, the office of the Principal Accountant General (PAG) (Audit – I), Odisha conducted “Ganjam Audit Week todat at Chatrapur.

On the  celebration week the Inaugural address by Shri Raj Kumar, Pr. Accountant General (Audit-I).

Principal Accountant General,(PAG started his speech by informing the gathering about the purpose of celebration of Audit Week, which is to reach out to organizations, institutions and people, who we regard as our main stakeholders.

He further adde that, in order to address the problem of shortage of qualified accountants in local bodies, our organization will be setting up a centre for Local Government Audit & Capacity Building. This is will first-of-its kind institute which will be dedicated exclusively for fulfilling the need for capacity building in respect of local governance audit. In this regard, a MoU has been signed between the C&AG and Institute of Charter Accountants (ICAI) to create a certification course.

PAG also mentioned that on reading Audit Reports and Inspection Reports, one might sometimes get the feeling that audit has only negative views.

However, he stated that audit also appreciates good work and makes recommendations for improvement.

He concluded his speech by mentioning how there are significant challenges in the working environment and that delivering public services and that implementing welfare schemes are not an easy task. This Audit Week gives us a chance to focus on the good work being done by the PRIs and recognize and appreciate the same.

 Keerthi Vasan V, CDO Chatrapur, Ganjam,welcomed all the members on the dias. He expressed his regards for AG Office for recognizing the commendable work done by the PRIs of Ganjam. He stated that such recognition would act as a form of motivation for all. He then continued by stating that in order to bring about more improvement, various training programmes were being conducted to sensitize the manpower. He also mentioned about the state government’s ambitious 5T programme and emphasized how the first ‘T’ stood for Transparency, which empowers people at the grass root level. He was pleased to inform that good work done by three public representatives had been recognized at the national level.

He concluded by assuring that in the upcoming years, Ganjam would have sufficient awareness and take necessary steps to achieve their goals.
