Atishi To Replace Arvind Kejriwal As Delhi CM
New Delhi: Aam Aadami Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal proposed the name of Delhi Minister Atishi to replace him as the Chief Minister of Delhi at the legislative party meeting at his residence on Tuesday.
She has been elected as the leader of Delhi AAP Legislative Party, ANI reported quoting party sources.
Atishi holds the highest number of portfolios, including Education, Finance, Revenue, Law. The CM had also nominated her to hoist the tricolour on Independence Day in his stead, but it was rejected by the Lieutenant Governor (L-G).
Kejriwal is expected to submit his resignation to L-G V K Saxena at 4.30 pm and the newly-selected leader of the legislative party will simultaneously stake claim to the position of chief minister.
The Delhi Assembly session has been convened on September 26 and 27.
Two days after being released from Tihar Jail, where he had been lodged for his alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor policy case, Kejriwal on Sunday announced his decision to resign from the post of chief minister within 48 hours while stating that he will only sit on the CM’s chair when people give him a “certificate of honesty”.
He had earlier ruled out the possibility of former deputy chief minister and AAP second-in-command Manish Sisodia taking over as the new CM. Sisodia too had said he will not hold any post till people give him a clean chit and will go among people along with Kejriwal to seek votes based on honesty,
Names of Gopal Rai, who holds the environment portfolio, and Kailash Gahlot, who holds transport, home and WCD departments, were also doing the rounds for the CM post.
