Assistant Engineer Taking Rs 1 Lakh Bribe Caught Red-Handed By Odisha Vigilance

Bhubaneswar : Naresh Kumar Das, the Assistant Engineer (AE) of Rural Works (PH) Division in Bhubaneswar was caught red-handed by the officials of the Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday while he was taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
He was accepting this bribe from a contractor (complainant) in his office in Bhubaneswar to cler his bills of approximately Rs 7 lakhs.
According to Vigilance sources, the accused AE refused to clear the bills of the complainant contractor if he was not paid the demanded bribe of Rs 1 Lakh.
When the complainant reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities, a team of Odisha Vigilance officials set a trap and nabbed the accused AE on Wednesday while he was taking bribe of Rs 1 Lakh from the complainant.
The entire marked-up bribe money was recovered from the possession of accused and seized.
An additional suspected ill-gotten cash of Rs 1,26,000 was recovered during his personal search following the trap, and seized.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case 5/2025 U/s-7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against Das. Investigation is in progress.
