After 12Hr Marathon Debate Odisha Universities Bill Gets Passed In Odisha Assembly At 4.29 AM

Bhubaneswar: After a marathon debate for over 12 hrs, Odisha Universities (Amendment) Bill was passed in Assembly at around 4:29 am on Thursday.
With it, the budget session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly was also adjourned sine die on Thursday.
The bill was passed despite opposition from the BJD because of the ruling BJP’s majority.
Out of the 18 amendments proposed by the ruling party, 12 were opposed by the BJD. As per reports, BJD MLA Arun Sahoo has questioned the validity of the bill claiming that it was an amendment to the 1989 bill, which was introduced in 2024. Sahu added that in future the bill’s legitimacy would be debated in the Supreme Court.
On Wednesday, the Assembly’s proceedings began on at 10:30 am and continued until 7:05 am on Thursday.
