NATIONAL HONOUR FOR ODISHA DOCTOR AT ANNUAL DIABETES MEET

BERHAMPUR,28/11/2020:Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), the national body on Diabetes awards doctors from across India for their varied contribution towards betterment of patients. This year during 48th annual conference of RSSDI, conducted virtually on an online platform, City based Endocrinologist Dr Sunil Kumar Kota from Diabetes & Endocare Clinic, Berhampur was awarded with RSSDI award for best innovation in Diabetes care in challenging situations 2020. This was based on Dr Sunil Kota’s various developmental activities during COVID-19. These include 1) tying up with Ganjam District administration in production of awareness videos on Diabetes & COVID-19 with District Collector Sri Vijay A Kulange, the then Berhampur municipality commissioner Sri Chakravarti Singh Rathore and Sub collector Sri Keerthi Vasan which were streamed lived by the District Administration’s official webpages via Facebook Live, Zoom, Twitter; 2) giving awareness interviews to various electronic, print and digital media; 3) helping Ganjam district administration in forming a team of 63 doctors for free teleconsultation during lockdown; 4) leading a team of experts during COVID week celebration; 5)visit to COVID Care centre to talk to inmates regarding care of comorbid conditions like Diabetes, Hypertension and Obesity etc under the guidance of Project Director Sri Dattatreya B Shinde; 6) offering his expertise for management of Diabetes in some inpatients; 7) awareness session for District Police and their health check under the supervision of DIG, southern range Sri Satyabrata Bhoi and SP, BerhampurSri Pinak Mishra and8)Online webinars with members of Rotary, Inner Wheel, Friends Helping Club, LIC, YWCA etc.
The inaugural session was presided over by Dr Banshi Saboo, president RSSDI where Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of state, Govt of India was invitedas chief guest. Dr Andrew Boulton, president International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and Dr Shashank Joshi, Chair, South East Asia region of IDF were the guests of honour. A total of 10 doctors from across India were felicitated with this award. Dr Sunil Kota was the only Doctor from Odisha to receive this award. Total of more than 15000 doctors have registered for this annual meeting, where 200 experts from across the globe will be delivering on various aspects of Diabetes over 4 days. Dr Kota will also be delivering on newer drugs for prevention and management of Diabetic kidney disease.
