World Diabetes Day celebration by Diabetes & Endocare Clinic

Berhampur, dated 14th November: On the occasion of World Diabetes Day today an awareness campaign was organized by Dr Sunil Kumar Kota, Consultant Endocrinologist at divisional office of LIC, Berhampur.Senior Divisional Manager Mr S P Paricha presided over the meeting.
This year’s theme was Diabetes: Nurses make the difference. Dr Kota highlighted the vital role played by Nurses in holistic management of Diabetic patients. Proper control of sugar and avoidance of complications in a diabetic patient requires wholesome cooperation and contribution from the family at home and nurses at hospital alike. In an outpatient set up, the nurses take up the multifaceted role of counsellors, dieticians and the one who take the emphatic role of explaining the nuances of Diabetes and its management apart from helping the patients with regards to medications. Nurses have an important role in community education of prevention and treatment aspects of Diabetes. They can truly be friends and philosophers to ensure smooth journey by Diabetic patients.
Stressing on the huge prevalence of Diabetes in Indians and its nature of behaving as a slow poison, Dr Kota emphasized upon audience about importance of annual screening of everyone for blood sugar, blood pressure, Lipids after 40 years of age. Because of nearing to 25% prevalence in Pregnant ladies, mandatory screening of every pregnant lady for Diabetes was stressed upon. A detailed interactive session on pillars of Diabetes Management like Dietary modification, Exercise, Regular intake of Medicines, Screening of complications ensued. Interaction between Diabetes & COVID-19 formed the centre stage of discussion. Later the audience engaged with Dr Sunil Kota with a question and answer session.
The meeting was attended by Marketing Manager Mr G Bag, HODs and personnel from other departments totaling to around 40 people. They were provided with educational videos and leaflets on Diabetes. Lastly Mr.Paricha expressed his gratitude to Dr Sunil Kota for his immense role in educating the general public at large and requested him to continue with this noble job.
