PRCI, ROURKELA HOLD WEBINAR- “EMPATHY THE COMMUNICATION MANTRA”

ROURKELA:A National Webinar on ‘Bridging the Empathy Deficit’ was organised by the Rourkela Chapter of Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) on 11th October 2020. Eminent speakers from different fields and across the country presented their thought-provoking deliberations in the session.

The panellists included Dr Mrinal Chatterjee, Professor and Regional Director, IIMC, Dhenkanal, Dr.Raveesh BN, Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry, Mysore Medical College & Research Institute, Mr Ramakrishna Sataluri,  Chief Products Business, Brand, Digitization and Marketing at Tata Power Solar Limited (TPSSL), Ms Sonal  Kapoor, Founder Director, Protsahan India Foundation and Ramendra Kumar, award-winning writer, speaker & storyteller. M B Jayaram, Chief Mentor & Chairman Emeritus, PRCI, Vinay Kumar, National Chairman, PRCI, Ms Geetha Shankar, Chairperson-YCC & National President elect., other members of the Governing Council, National executives, Zonal Chairpersons, Chapter Heads, office bearers and members of PRCI of different chapters across the country, PR professionals, working journalists and Mass Communication students joined the session through zoom platform and Facebook live.

The lively session rolled off with a splendid start with Mr Ramendra Kumar speaking on ‘Creating an Ecosystem of Empathy’. In his flamboyant style, he explained the importance of empathy in life. His address was studded with eloquent real-life examples and he reiterated the role of each individual in bridging the empathy deficit by creating an environment of collaboration rather than competition.

Dr Mrinal Chatterjee in his address deliberated upon ‘Empathy – The Communication Mantra’. Navigating through the academic aspect of empathy he also touched the practical facets and elaborated on how both under communication as well as over communication may mar the objective of conveying the messages pertaining to empathy.

Ramakrishna spoke on ‘Leadership through Empathy’ in the following session. With illuminating case studies, he deliberated upon how an organization can internalize the credo of empathy in taking care of the employees which in turn will make it a happy and performing institution. He emphasized on communication, trust and respect as the essential aspects of empathy.

In the next session, Ms Sonal Kapoor deliberated on ‘Empathy on the ground – the pragmatic face of empathy’. In her well-articulated address, she related hard-hitting real-life stories, especially concerning the girl child and women, which should serve as eye-openers to the society at large and make it realise that empathy is not an option anymore.
