One thing that has united all Indians in the COVID-19 situation is personal security and hygiene. Engaged in COVID -19 squad duty our primary objective was to ensure that people avoid large gathering, crowded places and busy streets. Ensuing from execution of Cr.P.C.-144 in entire of Paralakhemundi, to collection of fines for using unnecessary motor vehicles, to house raids for possession of intoxicating substances, barring people for carrying out religious rituals in larger numbers and finally imposing penalties on usages of mask and spitting at public places and arranging vehicles for the blue collar workers to students old aged, attending the pregnant migrant labourers at midnight our journey went from amp to amp to help people during COVID crisis. Securing old, needy and abandoned people from streets and feeding them, sheltering them at Municipality quarters was also part of our work. Preventing people to join in masses in Puja Pandals which used to orchestrate grandeur during Durga Puja, Savitri Osha; Good Friday and Easter Sunday- when people use to flock in numbers around Churches went silent. Even closure of weekly haats at Hatapada where scary crowd with loads of fresh vegetable and cattle exchange took place were warded off. They say every closure bring a new opening and may be lockdown has taught people to be self reliant, independent, brought out the best of cooks from each household and triumphed mothers who became school tutors within each home. My advice to fellow readers would be to secure their earnings for health aids of each family members rather than squandering their wealth. I would also appeal that “fear and anxiousness should not outrage us to abandon and offend our fellow beings”.
