Drunken Altercation Turns Fatal in Brahmapur; Man Slit Throat by Friend(!)

Brahmapur,04/10/26: A drunken altercation between two friends turned fatal in the Nimakhandi police station area of Brahmapur, Ganjam district, on Saturday night, when one of them allegedly attacked the other with a knife and slit his throat.
The deceased has been identified as Tuna Nayak, while police have arrested his friend Bitu Sahoo in connection with the murder.
According to police, Tuna Nayak, Bitu Sahoo and two others were consuming alcohol together in a room late at night when an argument broke out between Tuna and Bitu.
The exact reason behind the dispute is yet to be established. Preliminary information suggests that the altercation may have been linked to a money-related issue and earlier tensions, although police are investigating all possible angles.
The argument reportedly escalated after Tuna allegedly abused and slapped Bitu. In a fit of anger, Bitu allegedly took out a knife and attacked Tuna, causing a fatal throat injury. Tuna reportedly died at the spot.
Following the incident, Bitu allegedly attempted to flee from the area on his scooter. He was intercepted by police during a late-night vehicle-checking operation after officers noticed bloodstains on his clothes.
During questioning, he allegedly confessed to his involvement in the incident.
On receiving information, Nimakhandi police rushed to the spot, secured the crime scene and initiated an investigation. Brahmapur SP Abhinav Sonkar also visited the spot along with the scientific team and supervised the investigation.
Nimakhandi IIC Krushna Saha said the circumstances leading to the altercation and the exact motive behind the murder are being investigated.
Police are examining the statements of the other persons present during the incident and collecting scientific and other evidence to establish the sequence of events.
