Bhubaneswar, October 2, 2026: On a day that honours Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring message of truth, non-violence, service and human dignity, Odisha-born Canadian author, policy thinker and sustainability strategist, Satya Brata Das makes a call for collective action and hope to a global audience with the worldwide release of his new book, “The Manifesto of Hope: A New Social Contract for Our Human Family”.
Released on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the International Day of Non-Violence observed globally, the book arrives at a moment that invites reflection on humanity’s shared responsibilities towards one another and the planet.
Published by Barlow Books, Canada, the book presents a call to move beyond passive optimism towards informed, citizen-led action in responding to the interconnected challenges of climate change, inequality, conflict and social instability. It creates a meaningful connection with timeless questions of humanity, compassion, collective responsibility, sustainability and the power of individual action.
Drawing on decades of experience as a journalist, and a strategic adviser, Das explores how humanity can build a more resilient, equitable and sustainable future. His framework places particular emphasis on a new concept of Adaptation, Resilience and Mitigation (ARM), while advocating a shift in ambition beyond Net Zero towards a Planet Positive future.
Marking the occasion of the global launch, Satya Brata Das said, “The Manifesto of Hope is an invitation to rethink our shared future – not through passive optimism, but through informed action, citizen leadership and collective responsibility. It explores how we can move from crisis to resilience and build a more equitable, sustainable and Planet Positive world.”
The book also advances the idea that meaningful transformation cannot depend solely on governments, institutions or corporations. Communities have a central role to play in shaping the future, with collective action emerging as a critical force for building a more sustainable and inclusive world.
Das, who is based in Edmonton, Canada, has spent decades working across multiple fields like journalism, public policy, and in sustainability and strategic advisory roles. He has advised on major government files in Canada and served on public, corporate and philanthropic boards. His recent work has focused on climate resilience, sustainability and emerging technology.
His connection with Odisha remains an important part of his personal journey. Born in Odisha, he has carried his experiences of his birthplace into a wider global life and career, connecting questions of human dignity, sustainability and social responsibility with a broader international conversation.
