Sword Attack on Brother: Badabazar Police Arrest Accused, Weapon Seized

BRAHMAPUR, OCTOBER 3: Badabazar Police have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with an alleged attempt to attack his elder brother with a sharp-edged iron sword at Dhanamera Sahi in Brahmapur on October 1.
The accused has been identified as Ruturanjan Limma alias Chiku Limma (36), son of Manoranjan Limma of Dhanamera Sahi under Badabazar Police Station limits in Ganjam district.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 7:30 PM on October 1, when the accused allegedly confronted his elder brother, Sisir Ranjan Limma, and demanded his mobile phone. When the demand was refused, he allegedly abused his brother.
Police said the complainant’s wife intervened, following which the accused allegedly abused her and assaulted her with a wooden lathi, causing an injury to her left shoulder. When the complainant attempted to protect his wife, the accused allegedly attacked him with a sharp iron sword.
The complainant reportedly managed to escape the sword blow by moving away. His wife sustained swelling below both eyes during the incident. Hearing their cries, local residents reached the spot, following which the accused allegedly fled after threatening the victims, leaving the sword behind.
Based on the written complaint, Badabazar PS Case No. 741 dated 01.10.2026 was registered under Sections 296/74/115(2)/109(1)/351(2) of the BNS, read with Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act.
During the investigation, police visited the spot and prepared a spot map. The iron sword allegedly used in the incident was seized.
Police stated that the investigation also revealed the accused’s alleged involvement in substance abuse and association with anti-social elements, besides allegations that he had threatened local residents while under intoxication.
The accused was arrested at around 11:00 PM on October 1, after being informed of the grounds of arrest and with his family members being duly intimated.
