Golanthara Cop Detect Daytime House Burglary; One Detained

Brahmapur, Oct 2: Golanthara Police have detected a daytime house burglary case with the arrest of a 28-year-old man and recovery of cash and silver ornaments allegedly stolen from a residential house.
The accused has been identified as Balaji Behera (28), son of Late Kailash Behera, of Sasanapadar village under Golanthara police limits in Ganjam district.
According to police, the case was registered as Golanthara PS Case No. 400 dated October 1, 2026, under Sections 331(3)/305(a) of the BNS.
Burglary Reported During Daytime
Police said complainant Santosh Nayak lodged a written report at Golanthara Police Station on October 1, stating that he and his wife had gone to work when an unidentified person allegedly entered their house from the rear side and committed theft.
The complainant alleged that Rs.60,000 in cash, silver ornaments worth around Rs.30,000 and two tolas of gold ornaments were stolen.
The incident came to light when the complainant’s daughter returned home from college and allegedly noticed a person inside the house. She subsequently informed her father about the incident.
Police Trace Suspect
Following registration of the case, Golanthara Police launched an investigation, visited the spot and examined the complainant and witnesses. Their statements were recorded under Section 180 of the BNSS.
During the investigation, police reportedly gathered source information regarding the identity of the suspected offender.
Acting on credible information about the suspicious movement of Balaji Behera near Randha Market at around 6:00 AM on October 2, a police team reached the area and apprehended him.
During a search, police recovered the following articles allegedly linked to the burglary:
- Cash: Rs.28,181
- Silver rings: 4 nos., weighing 11.52 grams
- Silver chain: 1 no., weighing 22.15 grams
- New silver paunji: 2 nos., weighing 78.15 grams
- Old silver paunji: 1 no., weighing 24.90 grams
The recovered articles were seized following due procedure.
