SPANDAN CELEBRATES SAFE ABORTION DAY 2026

TALCHER :National level social organization Common Health and “Spandan” celebrated International Safe Abortion Day 2026 at Talcher Subdivitional Hospital Auditorium.
The programme was inaugurated by the S.D.M.O Gangadhar Behera with the lighting of the lamp and said that safe abortion is a crucial issue because the mortality rate due to abortion is increasing day by day due to unwed motherhood, love for sons, mentality of not giving birth to children, abortion due to physical deformities, unskilled doctors, etc. Therefore, everyone should be aware of this issue and its causes and expressed the hope that this problem can be solved through awareness. Senior Journalist Dhirmohan Ray,
expressed his conviction that the issues of female foeticide, rape of mentally challenged women, physical abuse of differently-abled people are increasing day by day and strict punishment, approach of all media on this issue can show the right way to solve this problem.
The speaker of the event Gynecologist Dr. Arvind Nandi, through a power point presentation and a written comic poem, informed the audience in detail about the Safe Abortion Act of 1971 and the amended Abortion Act of 2021.
Gynecologist Dr. Balaram Pradhan, Junior Hospital Administrator Ritanjali Swain gave their views in a discussion based on the main issues. On this occasion, the health workers present shared their experiences regarding safe and unsafe abortions that occur in their daily lives.
Doctors, ASHA workers, female and male health workers, pregnant women, nursing students, hospital staff were present at the event. Spandan member Bibhu Satpathy introduced the guest and Deepak Sahu proposed the vote of thanks.
