Five Held During Night Raid at Omm Nagar; Two Bikes and Deadly Weapons Seized
Brahmapur, Sept. 30: In a major breakthrough, Bada Bazar Police foiled an alleged plan to commit dacoity and arrested five persons during a late-night raid at Omm Nagar in Brahmapur. Police also seized deadly weapons, two suspected live handmade bombs and two vehicles from the spot.
The arrested persons have been identified as Omm Das (21) of Raghupati Nagar, Suman Pattanayak (22) of Mahuri Kalua Sahi, Nikhil Jena (22) of Jagabandhu Sahi, Rohan Bisoyi (26) of Dhanmera Sahi and Prem Kumar Sahu (21) of Gurumurti Pentho, all under Bada Bazar Police Station limits.
According to police, the incident relates to Bada Bazar PS Case No. 728 dated September 29, 2026, registered under Sections 310(4)/310(5) of the BNS, read with Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act and Sections 4 & 5 of the Explosive Substances Act.
Night Raid at Omm Nagar
Police said that on the night of September 29, acting on the direction of the IIC, Bada Bazar Police Station, SI Bighneswar Swain and his team were conducting night patrolling.
At around 2:00 AM, police reportedly received reliable information that a group of persons had assembled at an isolated location near the newly constructed BeMC Kalyan Mandap at Omm Nagar, allegedly with plans to commit dacoity.
A police team immediately raided the location. On noticing the police presence, the group allegedly attempted to flee under the cover of darkness. However, the police team managed to apprehend all five persons.
During searches, police recovered several weapons and other articles from their possession.
The seized articles include:
One white Yamaha scooter bearing registration number OD 07 AR 3724
One Royal Enfield Continental GT bearing registration number OD 32 J 5394
Three iron swords
Two iron rods
Two suspected handmade live bombs
Other incriminating articles
Alleged Target: Houses and Truck Drivers
During interrogation, police said, the accused disclosed that they had allegedly assembled at the location with the intention of targeting residential houses in Old Brahmapur Village and adjoining areas.
They also allegedly planned to commit robbery targeting truck drivers travelling along the bypass road.
Police said that, based on the prima facie evidence gathered during the raid and subsequent investigation, the five persons were arrested after observing the prescribed arrest formalities.
All five accused were arrested on September 29, 2026, and subsequently forwarded to the Hon’ble Court at Brahmapur.
Further investigation into the case is underway, police said.
