Deep Depression Crosses Andhra Coast; Rayagada Receives 399.7 mm Rainfall in 24 Hours

RAYAGADA: Following the landfall of a Deep Depression over the north Andhra Pradesh coast, heavy rainfall has swept across the Rayagada district over the past 24 hours.
According to an official update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at 0530 hrs IST on September 24, 2026, the system crossed the coast southwest of Kalingapatnam between 2300 hrs IST on September 23 and 0100 hrs IST on September 24. At landfall, the Deep Depression maintained maximum sustained wind speeds of 55–65 kmph, gusting up to 75 kmph.
Moving slowly west-northwestwards at a speed of 3 kmph over six hours, the system lay centered at 0530 hrs IST over north coastal Andhra Pradesh near latitude 18.3°N and longitude 83.7°E—approximately 50 km west of Kalingapatnam, 80 km north-northeast of Visakhapatnam, and 170 km from surrounding inland sectors.
