Ganjam on High Alert as Deep Depression Triggers Emergency Preparedness

District Administration Directs Officials to Stay at Headquarters from September 21 to 25; Fishermen Advised to Return to Shore
Chhatrapur, Sept. 20: In view of the deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal and the possibility of heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions, the Ganjam district administration has stepped up preparedness and precautionary measures across the district.
Ganjam Collector V. Keerthi Vasan chaired a preparedness meeting and directed officials of all concerned departments to remain alert and ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place to deal with any eventuality.
The Collector instructed officials to keep rescue equipment, medicines, essential materials and adequate manpower ready to tackle possible situations such as heavy rainfall, strong winds, waterlogging and landslides.
Fishermen Advised to Return to Shore Immediately
All fishermen who have ventured into the sea have been advised to return to the shore immediately. People have also been cautioned against venturing into the sea during the adverse weather conditions.
The Collector further directed all district-level officers not to leave the district headquarters from September 21 to 25. Officials have been instructed to maintain continuous coordination among departments and closely monitor the situation so that immediate action can be taken in case of any emergency.
Administration Prepared for Emergency Situations
The district administration has stressed advance preparedness to ensure prompt rescue, relief and response operations in the event of heavy rainfall or any other emergency.
Departments concerned have been directed to remain prepared to deal with possible waterlogging, uprooting of trees, road blockages, landslides and other rain-related emergencies.
The administration has also advised people to remain in safe places during lightning and heavy rainfall and avoid unnecessary movement outdoors.
The preparedness meeting was attended by Additional Collectors Sachidananda Nayak and Debadatta Panda, Chief Development Officer-cum-Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad Samir Kumar Jena, District Emergency Officer Sunil Sai Debashish, and officials from various departments.
