Six Gram Panchayats to Get Improved Power Supply; Network Strengthening to Enhance Reliability in Hilly Areas

Berhampur, September 4, 2026: Around 4,000 electricity consumers across six Gram Panchayats in Kandhamal district are set to benefit from improved and more reliable power supply following the commissioning of a new 33/11 kV Power Sub-Station (PSS) at Gressingia in G. Udayagiri Block.

The 2×5 MVA Power Sub-Station at Gressingia, constructed by TPSODL under the Odisha Distribution System Strengthening Project (ODSSP-IV) of the Government of Odisha, is aimed at strengthening the local electricity distribution network and meeting the growing power requirements of communities in the hilly and remote areas of the district.

The new sub-station will cater to consumers in Gressingia, Badimunda, Pikaradi, Ratingia, Petapanga and Gadaguda Gram Panchayats. With additional transformation capacity located closer to the areas being served, the project is expected to reduce power interruptions, improve voltage levels and enhance the overall quality and stability of electricity supply.

The project assumes particular importance in Kandhamal, where hilly terrain, forests, valleys and scattered settlements pose challenges to infrastructure development and network strengthening. The new power infrastructure is expected to improve the resilience of the distribution system and provide more dependable electricity services to communities spread across the region.

Reliable electricity supply will also benefit households, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, local businesses and other community establishments that depend on uninterrupted power for their day-to-day activities.

Kandhamal’s economy is largely associated with agriculture, horticulture, forest-based activities and small-scale livelihoods. Improved electricity infrastructure is expected to provide additional support to these economic activities while strengthening access to essential services in rural and remote areas.

Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said, “Reliable electricity is an important enabler of development, particularly for communities living across geographically challenging areas. The Gressingia Power Sub-Station will strengthen the local distribution network and help provide more reliable and quality power supply to around four thousand consumers. We remain committed to strengthening our infrastructure and ensuring that consumers across Southern Odisha receive dependable electricity services.”

The Gressingia PSS forms part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the electricity distribution network across Kandhamal. The project is expected to create a stronger and more responsive power network capable of meeting both the present and future electricity requirements of the communities in the area
