Rayagada Municipality Initiates Bio-Mining of Legacy Waste

Rayagada, September 1: With objective of making the town clean and pollution-free, Rayagada Municipality initiated a bio-mining project for accumulated legacy waste at the old dumpsite near Maa Majhighariani Temple today last Tuesday. The project received bids from three private agencies. Following the selection process, Zhaneshwar Engineering Private Limited was awarded the work. Collector Ashutosh Kulkarni inaugurated the project as Chief Guest.
The event was attended by Project Director of the Urban Development Agency Akshaya Kumar Khemundu, In-charge DIPRO Debaraj Takri, Regional Officer of State Pollution Control Board, Rayagada Municipality Chairperson P. Mahesh Patnaik, Executive Officer Kuldeep Kumar, along with ward councillors and municipal staff.
Through scientific segregation and recycling, this bio-mining process will clear the accumulated waste to reclaim the land. Approximately 60,000 metric tonnes of legacy waste will be processed within 4 to 6 months. Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) will be sent to cement plants, while inert/soil fractions will be utilized for land filling. Following completion, no open dumping yard will be allowed; all future municipal solid waste will be processed at dedicated wealth centers (Micro Composting Centers/Material Recovery Facilities).
Kuldeep said that once the old dumpsite is reclaimed, the land will be repurposed for beautification projects around Maa Majhighariani Temple. This initiative is set to keep the temple surroundings clean and provide a healthier, greener environment for the residents of Rayagada.
