City Bus Extortion Bid Foiled: Three Youths Arrested by Berhampur Bada Bazar Police

Swift Action by Police: Three Youths with Criminal Antecedents Arrested for Assault, Extortion and Threat on City Bus
Berhampur,(29th aug,2026): Acting promptly and swiftly on a complaint received late on the night of 28 August 2026, Bada Bazar Police Station registered Case No. 651 dated 28.08.2026 under Sections 309(6)/324(4)/296/351(3)/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested three accused persons.
They will be forwarded to the Hon’ble Court today, 29.08.2026. The case was registered at 11.45 p.m. on the written report of Uma Prasad Mishra (43), S/o Late Sarat Chandra Mishra of Kamapalli, P.S. Baidyanathpur, Berhampur.
Police said that, On 28.08.2026 at about 10.00 p.m., while the Maa Baral Devi bus was proceeding from New Bus Stand, Duduma Colony towards Kotagada, three persons — Omm Das, Omm Pradhan and Rahul Khetri — obstructed the bus and demanded “dadabati” money from the helper.
When this was refused, they demanded money from the conductor and driver, assaulted them with fist blows, kicks and a bamboo stick, and forcibly snatched Rs 1,000 from the conductor’s pocket.
The bus staff sustained injuries,the accused abused the staff in filthy language, threatened to kill them if they reported the matter to police, broke the glass of the bus and fled.
During investigation, statements of witnesses and other materials established a prima facie case against the three accused.
All three were arrested and the following items were seized: – One Hero Glamour motorcycle (Chassis No. MBLJA06AGEGD20437) – One Hero Pleasure scooty (Regd.
