COMMON MEDICINES NOT AVAILABLE IN TALCHER SUB-DIVISIONAL HOSPITAL

TALCHER :There has been dissatisfaction among patients and their relatives over the non-availability of common medicines at Talcher Sub-Divisional Hospital. Even betadine cream and lotion for cuts and Tetanus Toxide injections are not available. As a result, it has been alleged that patients coming for treatment are relying on outside medicine shops. There is a system to provide free medicines to qpatients in government hospitals. However, the incident of patients buying medicines from outside due to the lack of necessary medicines in the hospital has raised questions about the medicine supply system of the government health services.
According to information, Bhuvan Behera, a resident of Kamakhyanagar area of Dhenkanal district, was admitted to Talcher sub-district hospital on Tuesday after suffering serious injuries in an accident. However, he had to buy three medicines from outside, out of the ones the doctor had advised. These included a general tetanus injection, gas tablets and betadine. He also bought a bike near Bankadhara on the national highway.
Driver Prabhudatta Sahu fell and was taken to the hospital by some people. However, he too faced the same situation.
People are returning dissatisfied. Similarly, they have to rely on outside medicine shops for gas medicines as well.
Not only in their case, but also in other serious cases where patients come for treatment, medicines as prescribed by doctors are not available.
Daily wage earners, elderly, poor and people from economically weak families are more dependent on free medicines from government hospitals.
Therefore, the non-availability of medicines has become a major problem for them. On the other hand, the activists demand that the department should check the medicines available in the hospital and regularly check the stock of medicines and supply new stocks before the required medicines run out.
Many people in Talcher and surrounding areas depend on Talcher Sub-Divisional Hospital. There is a demand for the sub-divisional administration to look into the complaint of non-availability of common medicines in such a prominent government hospital. In this regard, the Talcher SDMO. Gangadhar Behera said, the hospital has not been receiving medicines as per the requirement for the last two months. As a result, patients are seen buying medicines from outside.
