Road Safety Meeting: Collector Directs Strict Enforcement of Traffic Rules to Prevent Accidents

Malkangiri, August 25, 2026: A district-level review meeting on road safety was held at the District Collector’s Office under the chairmanship of District Collector Prathamesh Aravind Rajshirke.
The meeting discussed various measures being taken by different departments to make road transportation safer, smoother and more disciplined across the district.
Special emphasis was laid on preventing the rising number of road accidents on the National Highways and State Highways in the district.
A special action plan was prepared to strengthen road safety measures and reduce accidents.
Addressing the officials, the Collector said that life is precious and the safety of every citizen must remain the top priority. He directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination with the objective of bringing road accidents down to zero and to undertake extensive awareness programmes among the public.
The Collector stressed the need for regular use of helmets, strict control over overspeeding, prevention of drunk driving and stringent enforcement of traffic rules. The Police and Transport Departments were directed to take strict legal action against traffic violators and intensify the collection of fines.
Superintendent of Police Binod Patil, Regional Transport Officer Tushar Hembram, Chief District Medical Officer Dr. Abid Hussain, along with senior officials from various departments, attended the meeting and presented the action plans and progress of their respective departments.
The RTO, Tushar Hembram, proposed organising road safety awareness programmes in schools and colleges, along with observance of Road Safety Week, to sensitise students about traffic rules and safe driving practices.
Chief District Medical Officer Dr. Abid Hussain highlighted the need to strengthen emergency medical services following road accidents and make the ambulance system more efficient so that accident victims can receive timely treatment.
The meeting also resolved to immediately identify and rectify accident-prone locations or black spots in the district, install adequate road-signage and information boards, and take strict measures against illegal parking.
The district administration further informed that automatic traffic signal systems will soon be installed at various important intersections in the city to improve traffic management and ensure smoother movement of vehicles.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment by the concerned departments to strengthen road safety measures, enforce traffic regulations strictly and create greater public awareness to prevent road accidents
