Retired IFS Officer Turns Advocate, Wins First Bail Case in Odisha High Court

Bhubaneswar, August 14, 2026: For retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Dr. Abhay Kant Pathak, his transition from public service to legal practice has brought an encouraging beginning, as he successfully pleaded his first bail matter before the Odisha High Court.

Dr. Pathak, IFS (Retd.), who recently began his legal practice, appeared before the Odisha High Court in a bail matter concerning Gobind Panda of Amthapada, near Baghiapada in Boudh district.
According to the case details, Gobind Panda was arrested by Boudh Police on May 23, 2026, along with three other persons—Madan Naik, Gopal Behera and Pranesh Kanhar—at Bridge Chhak. Police allegedly seized an auto-rickshaw from Panda’s possession along with 26 units of he alleged contraband.
Panda’s bail application was rejected by the Additional District Judge (ADJ), Boudh, on June 2, 2026. Subsequently, the matter came before the Odisha High Court, where Dr. Abhay Kant Pathak represented Panda and successfully pleaded for bail.
The Odisha High Court granted bail to Gobind Panda on August 7, 2026.
The successful appearance marks an important first step in Dr. Pathak’s new career as an advocate after his retirement from the Indian Forest Service.
