Brahmapur Chief District Agriculture Officer Nabbed by Odisha Vigilance While Taking Rs.15,000 Bribe

Brahmapur, August 12, 2026: The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday apprehended Byomkesh Mishra, Chief District Agriculture Officer (CDAO), Brahmapur, while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 from a beneficiary for processing a file under the Integrated Farming Systems component of the Mukhya Mantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY) and facilitating the release of the beneficiary’s subsidy.
As per the guidelines of the scheme, a beneficiary is entitled to receive 50 per cent subsidy on the eligible investment made towards farming and related infrastructure.
According to the Odisha Vigilance, the beneficiary had been requesting Mishra for the past two months to process his file. However, despite repeated requests, the accused officer allegedly did not process the file and instead demanded ₹15,000 as an immediate bribe, besides allegedly demanding a fixed percentage at the time of release of the subsidy amount.
Aggrieved by the alleged demand and harassment, the beneficiary approached the Odisha Vigilance and reported the matter.
Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap on Wednesday and allegedly caught Mishra while accepting the Rs.15,000 bribe from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe amount was recovered from his possession and subsequently seized by the Vigilance officials.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at three locations linked to Mishra from the Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.
In connection with the case, Brahmapur Vigilance Police Station Case No. 08 dated August 12, 2026, has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
