Bhubaneswar,(09/08/26):Odisha is set for another round of intense monsoon activity, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning in several districts over the next 24 hours due to the influence of a low-pressure area.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Sunday issued a yellow warning for parts of the state, particularly southern and western Odisha, where heavy rain is likely at one or two places.

According to the forecast, districts expected to receive heavy rainfall include Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

The weather department has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light rain in several districts, including Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur.

Authorities have advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorm activity and avoid taking shelter under trees or venturing into open areas during lightning strikes.

The warning comes as Odisha continues to feel the impact of the low-pressure system, which is expected to keep weather conditions unsettled across multiple districts.

Intermittent spells of rain, thunderstorms and lightning are likely to persist in vulnerable regions over the next day.
