Devotee Dies after Falling Ill Near Devi Subhadra’s Chariot During Bahuda Yatra in Puri

PURI, July 25: A 57-year-old devotee from Cuttack, identified as Abiram Das, died after collapsing near Devi Subhadra’s Darpadalana chariot during the Bahuda Yatra in Puri on Friday.
Das had travelled to the holy city to witness the grand return procession of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. While standing close to Devi Subhadra’s chariot, he suddenly felt unwell and collapsed.
Fellow devotees and seva karmis immediately rushed to his assistance and shifted him to the nearby Bagala Primary Health Centre, where doctors administered emergency first aid. As his condition remained critical, he was referred to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment.
However, doctors at the district hospital declared him brought dead on arrival.
According to preliminary information, Das had been suffering from high blood pressure, which may have contributed to his sudden collapse amid the scorching heat, heavy crowds, and physical strain during the festival.
The exact cause of death will be confirmed following medical examination.
The district administration has initiated the necessary formalities and is extending all possible assistance to the bereaved family.
The tragic incident cast a shadow over the otherwise devotional atmosphere of the Bahuda Yatra, which witnessed lakhs of devotees gathering in Puri to witness the return of the Holy Trinity to the Shree Jagannath Temple.
