Brahmapur Sadar Police Arrested Five  in Attempt to Murder Case at Pandiajholi Village

Brahmapur, July 18: Sadar Police have arrested five persons in connection with an alleged attempt to murder case reported from Pandiajholi village under B. Sadar Police Station in Ganjam district.

The case has been registered as B. Sadar PS Case No. 455 dated July 16, 2026, under Sections 126(2), 296, 115(2), 109, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The arrested accused have been identified as Papu Behera (24), son of Balu Behera; Alaya Kumar Behera (27), son of Krushna Behera; Santosh Behera alias Bapa (32), son of Bhima Behera; Saroj Kumar Behera alias Raghu alias Kalia (20), son of Hina Behera; and Debendra Mahanty (26), son of Prabhakar Mahanty. All are residents of Pandiajholi village under B. Sadar Police Station limits.

According to Mr.Santosh Behera,IICSadar, we arrested, the accused on July 17, 2026, at around 12:30 p.m. and were produced before the court on the same day.

The case was registered on the basis of a written complaint lodged by Gouri Das (40), wife of Rohit Das of Pandiajholi village.

During the investigation, police found that on July 14, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., the accused allegedly intercepted Sambhu Das, the complainant’s son, near the village pond while he was returning home. They allegedly abused him in obscene language before attacking him with wooden sticks on his head and other parts of the body with the intention of causing his death.

Sambhu Das sustained grievous bleeding injuries and lost consciousness. He was immediately shifted by his mother to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, where he is undergoing treatment.

Police seized three wooden sticks, believed to be the weapons used in the assault, from the spot under a proper seizure list.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the attack was allegedly the result of previous enmity between the two groups. Police said that in November 2024, B. Sadar PS Case No. 395 dated November 19, 2024, had been registered against Sambhu Das and two others for allegedly assaulting one of the present accused, Papu Behera.

Investigators further stated that Sambhu Das had recently approached the accused persons for a compromise in the earlier dispute.

He was allegedly called to the village pond for discussions and was attacked while returning.

The accused have also been booked for allegedly criminally intimidating the injured and his family by threatening them with dire consequences if the incident was reported to the police.

Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
