Brahmapur Police arrested Two cheating and Breach of Trust Master; a serious Crime

Brahmapur,(12/06/26):B.N. Pur Police have arrested two persons in connection with a cheating and criminal breach of trust case involving Rs63.56 lakh and gold-silver ornaments belonging to a 61-year-old retired Nursing Officer.
The B.N. Pur Police in Brahmapur (Odisha) successfully tracked down and arrested two suspects involved in a major financial fraud case.
The accused allegedly cheated a 61-year-old retired nursing officer of Rs63.56 lakh in cash along with valuable gold and silver ornaments.

The complainant, Bharati Mahapatra of Hanuman Mandira Sahi, Lanjipalli, Berhampur, alleged that her close relatives — J.N. James Swain (37) and his wife Sasmita Raut (30) of Jagatsinghpur — gained her confidence while her matrimonial dispute was pending in the Family Court.
They allegedly assured her that they would purchase a plot/flat in her name at Bhubaneswar and look after her welfare.
Believing their assurances, the complainant transferred a total of Rs.63.56 lakh through cheques and cash between April and September 2024. She also handed over approximately (maybe more may be less )5 tolas of gold and 10 tolas of silver ornaments for IIC said

The accused persons, however, neither purchased any property in her name nor returned the money or ornaments.
Investigation revealed that the accused purchased land at Bhubaneswar in the name of Sasmita Raut and allegedly showed forged documents to the complainant. They had executed a written agreement on 21.05.2025 undertaking to return the amount by 21.01.2026, but failed to honour it. The complainant further alleged that the accused threatened her with dire consequences when she demanded return of her money and valuables.
Both accused were arrested by B.N. Pur Police and forwarded to the court of law. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Other PS staff assisted to establish the case the IIC Should mention their name even .Havildar also a human being but true is he is Police, Cant be ruled out(!)
Officials also appealed to the public to remain cautious of phishing calls, fake investment schemes, and suspicious online payment requests.
