37 Motor Vehicle Violation Cases Detected; 17 Drunken Driving Cases Registered, 37 Vehicles Seized

Berhampur, June 8: In a targeted motor vehicle enforcement drive conducted on the evening of June 7, 2026, across the Berhampur Police District, police registered a total of 37 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act for various traffic violations.
As part of the enforcement action, 36 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler were seized. The drive focused on curbing dangerous traffic violations that pose a serious threat to road users, including drunken driving, triple riding, use of mobile phones while driving, and underage driving without a valid licence.
Case-wise Breakdown:
Drunken Driving: 17 cases (including 14 cases detected by Badabazar Police Station).
Underage Driving: 3 cases (drivers below 18 years of age operating vehicles without a valid driving licence.
Triple Riding: 12 cases• Using Mobile Phones While Driving: 5 cases.
Total Cases Detected: 37
A total of 37 vehicles, comprising 36 motorcycles and one car, were seized and taken into police custody.
Appropriate legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act and other applicable laws has been initiated against the offenders.
The enforcement drive was undertaken to deter traffic violations that frequently contribute to road accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Berhampur Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict vigilance on roads and taking stringent action against individuals endangering public safety through reckless and unlawful driving practices.
Berhampur Police has appealed to all citizens and road users to cooperate by strictly adhering to traffic regulations. Motorists have been advised not to drive under the influence of alcohol, avoid triple riding, refrain from using mobile phones while driving, and ensure that only adults possessing valid driving licences operate vehicles.
Police officials emphasized that responsible road behaviour can significantly reduce accidents and save lives.
They further stated that strict enforcement drives against traffic violations will continue in the coming days to ensure safer roads for all residents of the district.
