Berhampur, 02/06/2026: As part of the Swachhata Campaign, the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) organized an Urban Sanitation and Plastic-Free Campaign titled “Ama Ganjam Swachh Ganjam – Mission Zero Plastic Visibility” on Tuesday. A mass cleanliness drive was conducted at Reddika Bandha, Khodasingi, Ward No. 42.
Joining the special drive were BeMC Mayor Smt. Sanghamitra Dalai, Deputy Mayor E. Vivek Reddy, BeMC Commissioner Ms. A. Sasya Reddy, IAS, along with members of the Health Wing staff. The programme began with the administration of the Swachhata Pledge.
Addressing local residents, Commissioner Ms. Sasya Reddy stated that similar initiatives would be undertaken in all wards under the BeMC jurisdiction. She emphasized the need to sensitize and encourage citizens not only to stop using single-use plastic but also to motivate others to do the same.
She further added that the campaign would work closely with the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to achieve this objective. Educating children from a young age about the harmful effects of plastic on the environment and public health will create a far-reaching impact on society. Children can carry this message to their homes and act as catalysts in eliminating the use of single-use plastics in households as well as communities. The Commissioner also highlighted that placing public dustbins at strategic locations across city junctions is an effective way to reduce street litter and control the spread of diseases. However, merely installing dustbins is not sufficient; their success depends on proper civic management, regular maintenance, and public participation
