Berhampur, (13/05/2026): In a sustained effort to strengthen law and order and enhance public confidence, the Inspector In-Charges (IICs) of all police stations under the Berhampur Police District are personally performed intensive foot patrolling in their police station limit.

This community-centric initiative aims to ensure a visible police presence on the streets, facilitate direct interaction with citizens, deter criminal and anti-social activities, and enable prompt redressal of local grievances.

Police foot patrolling has been widely recognised for its positive impact on community safety, particularly in crime-prone “hotspots.” Studies indicate that regular foot patrols can reduce violent and property crimes by nearly 20–30 percent in targeted areas, especially street-level offences such as robbery, assault, and vandalism.

A visible and approachable police presence not only helps deter crime but also boosts public confidence in law enforcement. Increased interaction between police personnel and local residents often leads to better intelligence gathering and quicker identification of potential troublemakers. Foot patrolling also helps officers build stronger relationships with community members, fostering trust and cooperation.

The Odisha government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has consistently emphasised strict accountability in policing and administration. Following several high-profile incidents, the Chief Minister has taken a firm stand against negligence and inaction by police officers.

In a strong message to law enforcement personnel, the Chief Minister recently warned Inspector In-Charges that refusal to register cases—particularly complaints filed by common citizens and weaker sections—would invite strict disciplinary action, including suspension.

The Chief Minister also announced several initiatives aimed at strengthening the Odisha.
