Mayurbhanj Teacher Arrested for Sexual Assault on Class IX Girl

Baripada: A grim shadow has fallen over Krushnachandrapur Government High School in Mayurbhanj district after a senior teacher was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a Class IX student.

The incident, which occurred on April 25 in Betnoti area, has sparked outrage among parents and the local community.

The accused, 58‑year‑old Jatindra Mohanta, reportedly harassed the girl by demanding sexual favours and threatening her with poor marks. According to the complaint filed by the victim’s family, Mohanta intercepted her around 9 pm while she was returning home, dragged her to a secluded spot, and assaulted her.

A passerby, alerted by her cries, rushed to the scene, forcing Mohanta to flee.

Police registered a case and arrested Mohanta, who has since been remanded to jail after his bail plea was rejected.

 The District Education Officer confirmed that disciplinary action, including suspension, will follow. Disturbingly, Mohanta had faced similar disciplinary proceedings in 2021.
